Legalizing Marijuana

In many part of the world the most challenging situation of public health is the problem ofcontrolling the abuse and the misuse of drugs. These include tobacco, cocaine, heroin, marijuana and some others which are in general classified as leisure drugs. Between all the drugs the most commonlyused drugs are tobacco, alcohol and marijuana. All these drugs have been associated with many harmful consequences as well as accidental damage and harmful diseases. The problem of using marijuana hasbeen noted in almost all parts of the world. The consumption of marijuana is higher in young people with increase tendency to extend more to the teenagers as well. Extensive use of marijuana among theuniversity students has been reported in European countries and in the United States. Excessive use of this drug leads to risk factor for the growth of positive and negative symptoms. Moreover, use ofmarijuana in early teenage years is connected with greater risk of psychotic experiences. Several studies have found that people who misuse marijuana or dependent on it have considerably high rates ofemotional disorders comparative to those not misusing or dependent on it.

The legalization of marijuana for individual use have been discuss for decades. From the beginning of the 21st century thesubject of medicinal marijuana has turn out to be one of the most passionately debated policy issues in the United States. 14 states have legally recognized medicinal uses of marijuana even thoughfederal law prohibits such use of it.
