IDENTIFICATION
The transaxle model number is found on vehicle identification plate which is located on the right side of firewall. The transaxle identification number is stamped on clutch housing.

ON-VEHICLE SERVICE
DRIVE AXLE SHAFTS See appropriate AXLE SHAFT - FRONT article in DRIVE AXLES section. SHIFT ROD SEAL
Removal

Remove shifter control rod from yoke. Drive out roll pin from yoke. Remove yoke from shift rod. Remove seal.
InstallationTo install, reverse removal procedure. Apply multipurpose grease on seal prior to installation. Check transaxle for proper oil level. See appropriate TRANSMISSION SERVICING - M/T article in MANUAL TRANS SERVICE section.

1. Remove transaxle case housing bolts. Remove all plugs, springs and detentballs from case. Remove transaxle case by lifting and tilting away from clutch housing. Remove shift position switch and oil gutter from case. Mesh 4th gear (shift into gear) and remove reverse idler shaft and reverse idler gear. See Fig. 1 through Fig. 6 . 2. Remove retaining pin from reverse arm shaft. Remove reverse lever spring and reverse lock spring from reverse lever assembly. Using ascrewdriver to rotate shaft in both directions, push shaft out of case. Remove reverse lever assembly. Remove 5th and reverse check plug, spring and ball. Remove snap rings and retaining pins from 5th/reverse and 3rd/4th shift rods. Remove 5th/reverse and 3rd/4th shift rods. Remove shift forks and brackets. See Fig. 1 through Fig. 6 . 3.
