INFLUENCIA DEL NIVEL SOCIOECONÓMICO Y EDAD MATERNA SOBRE EL PRONOSTICO DEL RECIÉN NACIDO, EN EL PERIODO COMPRENDIDO ENTRE EL PRIMERO DE ENERO Y 31 DE DICIEMBRE DEL AÑO 2003, EN EL MUNICIPIO DE PEREIRA
RESUMEN Considerando la difícilsituación económica por la que viene atravesando gran parte de la población del país en los últimos años, se realiza este trabajo con el fin de determinar si existe relación, entre el nivel socio-económico de los padres y el pronóstico del recién nacido; tomando el tipo de institución como variable sustituta del nivel socio-económico y como afecta las variables: peso al nacer, número de controlesprenatales, APGAR, tipo de parto, sexo y edad materna al momento del parto. De los 12.661 registros de nacidos vivos encontramos, que al dividirlos de acuerdo al sitio donde se atendió el parto, las variables con valores más desfavorables se encontraron en las instituciones públicas; contrariamente a lo observado cuando los grupos se dividieron por edad materna, donde no se encontró una diferenciaestadísticamente significativa. Cabe anotar que éstas variables son determinantes en el pronóstico tanto del recién nacido, como del adolescente y el adulto, siendo en muchos casos responsables de secuelas como parálisis cerebral, retardo mental, bajo coeficiente intelectual y bajo rendimiento escolar. ABSTRACTConsidering the difficult economic situation, which large part of the population of our country is facing in the last years, this work is carried out with the purpose of determining if there exists a relation between the parents´ socio-economic level and the new-born baby’s prognosis; taking into account the institution type as a substitute variable of the socio-economic level and how thefollowing variables affect: weigh at the time of birth, number of prenatal controls, APGAR, childbirth (delivery) type, sex, and maternal age at the moment of the childbirth. From the 12.661 registers of living new-born babies, we found that when dividing them according to the place where the childbirth was attended, the variables with the most unfavorable values were in the public institutions;contrary to what was observed when the groups were divided by maternal age, in which case a statistically significant difference was not found. It should be noted that these variables are decisive not only in the new-born baby’s prognosis, but also of the adolescent and the adult, being in many cases responsible for sequels like cerebral paralysis, mental retardate, low intellectual coefficient, andlow school production.
