My Sanctuary
Most of us have a special place to go when we need to be alone or have some quite time to think about different events inour life. I grew up going to church with my family every Sunday. As a child I was told that I had to be calm and quiet when in the church. For many years, I saw the church as the house of God wherepeople were going to visit and give thanks to Him for the gifts received. Later in my life, I realized the church was more importantly, the legacy from God to follow the example of His son’s life.Today, my church is my sanctuary, my special place to go when I need to think and reflect about any circumstance in my life.
I feel so much more peaceful at my special place than anywhere else. Thebuilding is beautiful and inviting. There is an aura in the environment that makes me feel comfortable and find the peace I need to listen and talk to the Lord. If there is no service, the place will bealmost always in silence. Whether there is one person or fifteen or an entire crowd, nobody talk loudly there. Usually, people behave respectfully as soon as they get in a church, because they know Godis present in body and soul.
My sanctuary also makes me feel safe. I go there not only to give thanks or ask for help, but also when I am troubled, and he is always there, welcoming me. The majorityof the catholic churches have a crucifix, a cross hanging above the altar or central space with Jesus crucified on it. Others have simply an empty cross. My church has a beautiful and enormous statueof a risen Christ with His arms opened hanging on the wall of the main altar. It is usually what I see first when I enter into the great open space as I look for those receiving arms that immediatelymake me feel protected.
God is everywhere. His Holly Spirit lives in our souls since the day we were baptized as babies. With the busy life that most of us have, stopping to make time to talk to...
