ORIGIN AND DEFINITION OF TRIBOLOGY
    TRIBOLOGY The word has its origin in a Greek word, "stirrups" (touch or rub in Spanish). So TRIBOLOGY as the science of friction, wear and lubrication. And wemust remember that not only applies TRIBOLOGY in the industry, or Industrial Maintenance, but also on human anatomy, etc.. It is therefore a Multidisciplinary Science that involve areas as:
physics,chemistry, applied mathematics, solid and fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, materials, lubrication, equipment design and machine components, maintenance procedures, etc.
END OF TRIBOLOGY
  Tribology to be greatly prolonging achieve the life of equipment and mechanical components, through the control and reduction of wear thereof. To do this, we must study and analyze the different components,using techniques analyzing tribological wear.
friction
  The friction is defined as the resistance to movement during sliding or rolling body which undergoes a solid to move tangentially other withwhich this contact. We can say therefore that the friction is not a feature of materials, but the behavior of the system where these materials are located.
 wear
Wear is surface damage and / orremoval of material from one or both solid surfaces in relative motion, either by sliding bearing or impact. Some examples might be:
abrasion.
adhesive wear.
corrosion, etc..
lubrication
  Lubrication is interposition and / or applying a layer of a product that reduces the coefficient of friction between two friction surfaces.
Applications of Tribology
  Many mechanical components industrywhere it has direct or indirect application Tribology, but the most common are:
  Bearings, conjinetes, caps, transmissions, axles, camshafts, connecting rods and elements of heat engines, brakesand clutches for machines and vehicles, etc..
