What is psychosocial care and how can nurses betterprovide it to adult oncology patients





“A therapeutic relationship is essential in the care of our patient. What proven tools you as a health care provider will institute or use in order toestablish such relationship”

One of the most important things you as a health care provider must establish is trust with a patient and or family member in some cases. As well as effectivecommunication skills are essential to the functioning of the entire interdisciplinary healthcare team, so the patient can receive a better more specialized care. We will be providing you with the appropriatetechniques, tools, and skills required so you are able to provide the best and safe care for our clients. The key to providing a safe, confidential, educating environment is through goodcommunication, you are able to do this by asking open- ended questions instead of the close ended questions to gather the most information possible and this will also give an opportunity for the client to expressthemselves, and you get to know them better. Another piece of advice is to engage in conversations not changing topics to quickly, also talking about the clients sexuality in many cases this topic isnot mentioned and constantly nurses assume they are psychologically “fine” with the subject and to prevent patient from feeling embarrassed they don’t ask the appropriate questions, which leads to anincomplete psychological assessment. Dialoguing with family member may be a great idea, to find out more information from the patient and establishing a trusting relationship with them, but beforetalking to a family member you may want to ask the client how is their relationship with them, so you won’t make the client stressful or not satisfied by talking to their family about their health....
