OSMOSIS IN RED BLOOD CELLS
lab

GOALS:
-Observe what changes are in the red blood cells.
-Describe the changes on a red blood cell, it depends the environment
-Explain and understandwhy these changes occur.
-Understand with the experiment what osmosis is.

INTRODUCTION:
In this lab we are going to show how osmosis happens with some red blood cells in different solutions.Osmosis is the passage of water from a region of high water concentration through a semi-permeable membrane to a region of low water concentration. Also it moves from an area in which a solute suchas salt is present in low concentrations to an area in which the solute is present in high concentrations. The end result of osmosis will be equal amounts of fluid on either side of the barrier, creating a state which is known as “isotonic.” The fluid most commonly used in demonstrations of osmosis is water, and osmosis with a wide variety of fluid solutions is key for every living organism onEarth.

Materials:
-Juan Guillermo Rojas
-Blood Lancets
-Microscope slides
-Microscope slide covers
-2 Beakers of 100ml
-Balance
-Graduated cylinder
-Water
-NaCl (salt)
-Blooddrop
-Microscope (x40)

PROCEDURE:
1. Clean up all the materials
2. Make the calculus to know how much salt we have to put in one of the beakers, because the other beaker is going tohave 20 ml of pure water (beaker A is the one without salt and beaker two is the one with salt).
3. We weight the salt on the balance to take the amount of salt we need.
4. We take the amountof salt we need and we put it in one of the beakers.
5. We fill up the two beakers until 20 ml.
6. We take the blood lancet and we cut someone to put some blood in both beakers.
7. Taketwo microscope slides and put some of the solutions on them (in one you put some of the solution with salt and in the other the one of pure water).
8. We put on them the microscope slide...
