Cirque du Soleil San Francisco

After our meeting in Montreal, we have evaluated a couple of additional options for a Cirque du Soleil facility at Pier 70 in San Francisco. The concerns about theSan Francisco market being able to sustain a permanent show for 10 years have led us to believe there is a better alternative.
Option One: Permanent Cirque facility for traveling Cirque shows

ThisOption involves the development of a multi-use facility at Pier 70, designed and set up to handle a Cirque du Soleil traveling show for six months out of the year. If ticket sales can not be sustainedfor that long a period, it can be scaled back to ensure an effective and profitable sales level. With San Francisco’s strong tourist demographics, we feel that a six month season that coincides withthe peak tourist season should be feasible, particularly considering the fact the shows would change year to year. Cirque’s San Francisco shows at ATT Park have been in the off-season for tourists.Their success has shown the viability of the local resident market but does not reflect the full demand for tickets that can exist here.

The facility would also be used to feature Doug Trumbull’snewly developed 3D high speed motion picture system showing his feature film Star Sailor. This system features projected entertainment that is 5X the normal frame rate of 24 fps (120), 2X the screensize (up to 100ft wide), and 5X the brightness (30+ foot lamberts), using high gain “torus” (hemispheric) screens. It is more of a film based theme park ride than the ordinary movie experience.

Wewould propose to develop a second of these films about the Cirque du Soleil or perhaps a particular Cirque du Soleil show. This would be featured in our Pier 70 center as well as in a series of travelingtheaters Trumbull is developing that will be assembled in shopping center parking lots around the US.
