CHILE CHICO

History

Chile Chico is located on the southeast shore of Lake General Carrera with a total area of 4,669 km2 and a population close to 4500 people. Its territory stretches from theArgentine pampas to the Northern Ice Field, with a diverse landscape ranging from cold steppe to the Patagonian forest. The capital of the commune is Chile Chico and its most important village are:Fachinal, Mallin Grande, Puerto Guadal and Puerto Bertrand.

With an enviable microclimate throughout the region Chile Chico offers visitors a mix of endless steppe, snowy mountains and turquoise blueand hundreds of rivers, lagoons and lakes that come with it, as a great framework for Lake General Carrera dream a paradise.

The commune is characterized by the contrasts of its landscape, aridpampa with fruit trees and poplar farms in flat, fertile valleys, which suggest that one is in central Chile.

Lake General Carrera is still present in most of the Commune causing a microclimate withmild temperatures and low rainfall, close to 250 millimeters per year. The climate, the lake and the benefits of agriculture have given Chile Chico as the "City of the Sun.
