Poverty refers to the condition of not having the means to afford basic humanneeds such as clean water, nutrition, health care, education, clothing and shelter. This is also referred to as absolute poverty.
Fifty million people, half of the Mexican population, live inpoverty, and 20 million of them live in extreme poverty. Unfortunately, most of the time the garbage is their only way of feeding, and sometimes, they don’t even eat anything. The second cause of poverty has to do with the living place. Statisticsshows that people who live in areas far away from the cities are poorer because of the absence of communication and transportation in rural areas. That’s why the governments can’t provide services such aspotable water, electricity, shelter, food, health care, and education.
The third and maybe the most significant cause of poverty is the economy of the country. The International Monetary Fund andWorld Bank-prescribed structural modification policies have been applied in Mexico because the government doesn’t carry out enough policies to successful progress.
