Homemade Beauty: Lavender Antiseptic Lotion
Lavender is a valuable herb for treating skin problems as it inhibits infection-causing bacteria while soothing your skin, helping to preventscarring.
You Will Need
• 1 cup fresh lavender flowers
• 1 tablespoon witch hazel
• pinch of salt
• 3 drops lavender essential oil
• 2 drops tea tree essential oil
What to Do1. Put lavender flowers in a bowl and pour over 250 ml (1 cup) boiling water. Cover and steep for 1 hour. Strain and measure out 1/4 cup.
2. Combine all ingredients in a bowl, mix well and storein a small, dark glass bottle.
3. To use, apply to skin with a cotton ball.

Myblack-legged tick relatives (also known as deer ticks) and I will be out in full force this spring, especially in the Northeast. We’re the kind of ticks that can transmit Lyme disease, a bacterialinfection that can cause chronic fatigue, joint pain, and other problems if left untreated.
More than before, we’re looking for humans to feast on. That’s because our usual meal of choice—white-footedmice—is not as available this year, thanks to phenomenally poor acorn growth in the fall of 2011. (The mice eat the acorns, and ticks feed on the mice; it’s very Circle of Life.)
