Outstanding Webmaster of Phi Theta Kappa’s Chapter at Santa Monica College

Whether you are a member of Phi Theta Kappa or a friend, the energy and enthusiasm of Raymond Jimenez while performing his duties as webmaster are evident. Jimenez talks about his work at Phi Theta Kappa and general aspirations in college.He takes his role in the honor society seriously. “I believe in a sense of community and unity, and I have a vision of PTK members getting together and being team players who support one-another, and a redesigned website was the first step for this vision,” Jimenez said.
Jimenez, 20, was born in Los Angeles, and has spent most of his life around the Hollywood area. He studies at Santa MonicaCollege and he is majoring in Engineering.
This aspiring engineer and active webmaster is someone to spend time with. Some of his favorite activities are “swimming, log runs, surfing the web, surfing YouTube, Youtube Video blogging, flying (anywhere), and reading philosophical text,” Jimenez claimed.
His peer officers have positive points of view about Jimenez. “Ray is both professional andexceedingly friendly. He knows how to get work done while maintaining a sense of friendliness with his fellow board and general PTK members,” Nicholas Soegono, VP of Relationships at PTK, said.
Another officer, Louis Kane, talks about working with Jimenez. “I would describe him as a hard worker and someone who is willing to do extra work if he thinks it would help something or someone,” Kanesaid.
The thing he likes the most of his duties as webmaster is helping others, Jimenez said, “There are very few positions in the world like this (in my opinion). Positions where you work on something and make it better, or start something new. It's very thrilling.”

What is your role as the webmaster of ptk?
My role as webmaster of PTK BKD is to update, maintain, and keep the organization's website up-to-date. This means ensuring that 1) Our website is a clean and easy to use "portal" to communicate with our members. and most importantly 2) is an accurate portrayal of what our organization and our chapter stands for andwho we are.
2. Why did you decide to be the webmaster?
Before I was webmaster, I was disappointed by the website's "ease of use" and the lack of ability to convey itself and what it represents to those visiting the site. It was not very inviting and I bet many possible members where pushed away of PTK by that. I wanted that to change.
As a new member in PTK (back in the day) I saw a lot ofpotential in the chapter to be not just great, but extraordinary. I believe in a sense of community and unity, and I have a vision of PTK members getting together and being team players who support one-another, and a redesigned website was the first step for this vision.
3. Do you enjoy your position?
I do, very much! It provides an amazing opportunity to work on a project, find where itdoesn't work, and then make it work. There are very few positions in the world like this (in my opinion). Positions where you work on something and make it better, or start something new. It's very thrilling.
4. What is your major and is being a webmaster helping you to learn about it?
I’m an engineering student. And although not directly linked to physics or anything of the sort, the projectbased approach of the webmaster position is a very crucial tool that engineers need to master.
5. Are you currently doing any internships or volunteering?
No, sadly I'm not currently doing any internships. But I do volunteer here and there when I have spare time.
