What is architecture?
According to the dictionary architecture is “the art of designing and superintending the erection of buildings and similar structures”. Architecture is one of the main fine arts, along with sculptures, painting, dancing, music and literature. However, the term architecture is not only art; architecture has an extensive definition because a lot of aspects are taken intoaccount.

First of all, what makes architecture so special? What is the difference between architecture and other arts? In my opinion architecture is so complex and so outstandingly special because it's the art we use to the design the world we live in. Architecture definitely is more than building and more than art; it is appreciated as part of an art of living. Architects design the world we livein, it can influence the way we feel, the way we think, even our own perspective. That is what differentiates architecture from other arts.

You can not only appreciate architecture, you get to live in it, to experience day by day through life, that is why it is more than art. Like the famous architect Adolf Loos said, everybody must like the house, but not everybody must like the art work.The art work is an artist’s matter but the house has to cover requirements, the habitants’ requirements. That is why it is said that just a little part of architecture is about art and the rest we have to exclude it from art.

For architecture to be really architecture or good architecture it has to fulfill some expectations. For example as in “De Architectura libri decem”, book written byVitrivus says that every building should fulfill the principles of firmitatis utilitatis venustatis; translated is: durability, utility and beauty.
Architecture does not only mean build, an architectonical design should also be beautiful, therefore we can see that architecture covers a little of engineering and it is also art. In architecture the link between life and art is extremely strong. For thatreason even when architecture means building walls, columns, roofs and structures, for a building to be architecture it has to be a design with sense. Architecture’s objective is to create a space where people can fulfill their activities in a place with character that accomplish its function.
This “make sense” of the building its one of the characteristics that differentiates architecture frombuilding and its one of the things that makes architecture become art. Since architecture establish the human behavior in the space and the environment of the building. A good architectonical design is a transitional design, time goes through but the design remains in and its duration of course, the design has to stand up and remain in a good condition.

We can say that architects express theirselves with their designs, and like painting or singing, designing is architects way of leaving a mark in the world. They are involved in the daily life of people, they have to create the environment in which we live, they have to give life’s environment an expression. For this is what helps people to feel their home like a real home. Architects create the rapport between building and mind. Forexample, everybody can dream everywhere or can sleep everywhere. However, only certain places feel like home and architects are the ones who have to set that environment, to make people feel home when their home, make people feel like work when they are supposed to work. Only in certain places you can develop some activities, and architects give that expression and feeling to buildings.
Inaddition, we can say that to analyze whether a building is truly good architecture we have to analyze its purpose to see if it fulfills its use and function.
