Quote Essay
Every now and then a book, a speech, or even a quote can change the arc of your life. To me, personally, a quote said by Malcolm X: “Education is the passport to the future, fortomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today.” This powerfully inspires me to never settle for less and to take advantage of the opportunities available to me at this time. I believe that for those whodo not prepare for the future today, they will never be able to form part of it.
           The first part of the quote says “education is the passport to the future” implicating that education is aportal to prosperity as it gives us access to several doors of opportunity. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that a majority of the fastest growing and highest paying occupations betweennow and 2014 will require some form of postsecondary education. In California, the need for a skilled workforce is even more acute.  It is estimated that 61% of all jobs in the state will requirepostsecondary education by 2018. Even today, six out of every ten jobs in our economy depend on highly trained workers with the requisite advanced skills that are available only to those possessingeither a two-year or four-year college degree. [1] This is very disappointing since almost half of the population in California will struggle with unfortunate economic circumstances. However, this makes merealize that what Malcolm X stated was completely correct because only those who have a postsecondary education will make part of a bright future.
           The second part of the quote includes:“for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today.” This inspires me to take advantage of the resources available for me nowadays, instead of taking them for granted and being careless for theopportunity for a higher education just knocks once in life. Not only does Malcolm X’s quote inspire me to continue working my best, but also what he has achieved in life. The moment he said this...
