Mercantilism: Causes
* Commercial Revolution: Europeans came into contact with other lands and other people, so they learned about different foods, animals, medicines, geography and because ofthese the world trade grew rapidly. Amounts of gold and silver were shipped back to Europe from the colonies, and these led to the Commercial Revolution that brought grate changes like new businessmethods, an increase in prices and the growth of modern capitalism.
* Spread of Christianity: The expansion of European also affected the spread of Christianity because the Europeans interfered withthe cultured of many native people and they tried to force them to become Christian and to adopt European ways.
Mercantilism: Consequences
* World trade increased: the discover of new trade routesended the monopoly of Italians, the wealth of Genoa, Venice and Florence declined, and trade moved from the Mediterranean to the north of Atlantic ports of London, Amsterdam, Bristol and Antwerp(France-England-Holland). This take the result of the incensement of trade from Asia (spices, gems, paper, ivory, porcelain, textiles, new items such as tea or coffee, etc.) Americans (potatoes,tobacco, cocoa, corn, etc.) Canada (furs and codfish) New England (lye, ship timbers, pitch, turpentine, etc.) West Indies (sugar, molasses, rum, indigo, etc.) and Africa (woods, ivory, gold, ostrichfeathers, etc.)
* The Slave trade grew: the slavery existed in Africa and Asia for a long time, long before the arrival of the Europeans, Arabs traded slaves. Also there were slaves in the Ancient Greekand Roman Empires. In these ages slavery had nothing to do with the color of the skin but now black people from Africa were captured and sold into slavery by other blacks. People of any ethnic groupcaptures in war could be made slaves. Europeans entered the slave trade, the grade grew and attitudes towards slaves gradually changed.
