the second stage of a L.I.P. addresses the useable life of an object; in the pastwe kept objects for long periods of time because they were made to last. today the expectation is to replace these goods at shorter intervals. though computers have a finite life, if they are produced with longevity in mind their usefulness can be extended. the average lifespan of a computer today is 3 - 5 years, recomputes are configurr to be usable for 5 years or more.

3) WHAT HAPPENS AT THE END OF THE ROAD?
the final stage of a L.I.P. is the proper recycling at the end of its life. of the over 200 millon computers disposed in the U.S. annually only 14% are recycled, the remainder is known as E-waste. due to the complexity and toxicity of computers the most difficult part of their recycling is component disassembly. the process islabor intensive and cost prohibitive domestically. this places the burden of our E-waste on countries with limited environmental laws.

RECYCLING TAKE BACK PROGRAM
because of this, recompute's utilize a tool-less teardown process that can be completed within minutes. the case and wrap are recycled with other paper products; and the hardwarecan be returned througt our recycling take back program. this ensures that the hardware is handled by responsible domestic recyclers.
WHERE DID RECOMPUTE COME FROM ?
Recompute was not cooked up by some corporate big wig trying to green-wash an idea and make a quick buck. rather recompute began life as a thesis design project at the university of houston, under the pretenses of answering thequestion how design and sustainability come together to make a better product.

corrugated cardboard is strong, light, easy to process a recycle. the corrugated is food grade with 50% recycled content and islaminated together using non-toxic white glue. cases are then treated with a non-toxic flame retardant. the finished cases act like battle armor to te electronics within and can support over 800 lbs.

WHAT'S UP WITH THE SHAPE?
the curve in the body is a tessellation (mirror image), which makes the body parts more efficient to cut out of cardboard sheet. it is a smarter use of materials and generates less wate.

it is easy to get your recompute customized. we can do anything from screen printing a logo or graphic to adding a decorative paperwrap.

recomputes are lean and mean with trong processors, ample memory,and sizeable hard drives. however the parts are efficient in configuration. no junk or fillers, just a straight forward computer that works like ir is supposedto.

we live in a USB world and it seems like there are never enouhg. rather than add a bunch of accessories to recompute that you would never use, we added USB ports. that way you can plug in what you need and remove it when you are done.
