Introduction

We believe that knowing more about reusing, recycling and reducing will help cleaning up the world. People always say that knowledge is powerand by knowing how to take care of our resources, we might be able to reverse the effects of the damage we’ve caused. Ecosystems are extremely fragile and our careless activities have broken that delicate balance that sustains them.

If we do not take care of our earth the effects will be social, environmental and global. We all live in the same planet whether we like it or not, the mistakes ofa few will affect us all. Garbage, air, water and soil pollution are killing people everywhere and the levels of pollution are dramatically decreasing our life quality. If we do not stop and change the way we live today, life as we know it will change; no more 15 minute showers, no more clear blue skies, no more food to spare, no more life to enjoy…

We are working to make a social project thatcan change the thinking of the people and how to recycle things that are at home, for example: PET, aluminum, batteries, etc. By knowing how and where to place them, little by little we will start helping the earth to be “healthy” again.

The social project we are thinking is to deliver brochures giving information to our neighborhoods, place posters to make people aware we are going to berecollecting PET, and clean the parks near our neighborhoods.

Plastic

Plastic is a common name for Polymers: materials made of long strings of carbon and other elements. Each unit in a string is called a monomer, and is a chemical usually derived from crude oil and natural gas.

All types of plastic are recyclable. The types of plastic most common are:

| |PET|Polyethylene terephthalate - Fizzy drink bottles and oven-ready meal trays. |
| |HDPE |High-density polyethylene - Bottles for milk and washing-up liquids. |
| |PVC |Polyvinyl chloride - Food trays, cling film, bottles for squash, mineral water and shampoo. |
