An individual level of analysis begins with the view that at the root, it’s people who make policy; this could be related to the theme of slavery as “it’speople who make others their slaves”. An individual level of analysis also involves understanding how the human decision-making process leads to policy making or the creation of slavery in this case.There are a lot of variables called cognitive factors that limit or affect a person’s way of thinking and that can lead to taking bad choices. Seeking consistency is one of these factors. For example,one of the Muslims who attacked Francis’ village may have not liked the idea of having human beings as pets, but did it anyway in order to avoid contradicting the existing view that people had ingeneral. Stereotypes can also be a potential reason to explain the rise of slavery in Africa; maybe Muslims believe themselves superior than the Dinka people and think that they are mean to be slaves.Organizational behavior also plays a big role in the actual situation of Africa regarding slavery; humans tend to think and act differently in groups than they do as individuals, this is also called“groupthink” and it is tied to consistency seeking, as the same example applies for both of them. Health(physical and mental) and ambition are also important factors in this, as well as political history andpersonal experience, this could be referring to the war between Arabs and Dinkas and that is also another cause of this problem.
