The left was represented by Confederación Nacional del Trabajo (CNT), Federación Anarquista Ibérica (FAI), Partido Comunista de España(PCE). The right was represented by Carlists, Bloque Nacional and Unión Militar Española (UME).

b) What reforms did the coalition government enact?
The new government wasted no time in enacting sweeping agricultural, labour and anti-clerical legislation. New laws protectedtenants from eviction, encouraged collectives and co-operatives, and officially split church and state.
The new government would recognize civil marriages and divorces. In order to reduce the influenceof the army; the new government forcibly retired many officers, granting them full pensions.

The left side was happy because those changes did not go far enough for those on the extreme
The conservative right was furious,. Not only did the reforms succeed in alienatingthe right, the majority of ordinary people dissatisfied as they made little more than dent in the widespread poverty of rural Spain.
