The Taj Mahal in Agra India
The Taj Mahal (Hindi: ताज महल, Urdu: تاج محل ("Crown Palace"), pronounced / tazh Mahal / / tɑʒ mə'hɑl /) is a complex of buildings built between 1631 and 1654 in thecity of Agra, State of Uttar Pradesh, India, on the banks of Yamuna, the Muslim emperor Shah Jahan of the Mughal dynasty. The stunning set was erected in honor of his favorite wife, Arjumand BanoBegum, better known as Mumtaz Mahal, who died giving birth to their 14th child, and it is estimated that the construction required the effort of some 20,000 workers.
The Taj Mahal is considered thefinest example of Mughal architecture, a style that combines elements of Islamic architecture, a Persian, Indian and even 2 turca.3 The monument has achieved particular notoriety by the romantic characterof its inspiration. Although the mausoleum covered by the dome of white marble is the most familiar, Taj Mahal is an integrated set of buildings.
Now a major tourist destination of India. In 1983,he was recognized by UNESCO as World Heritage. The Taj Mahal was named one of New Seven Wonders of the Modern World.

Mumtaz Mahal dio a su esposo catorce hijos, pero falleció en el último parto y elemperador, desconsolado, inició casi enseguida la construcción del Taj como ofrenda póstuma. Todos los detalles del edificio muestran su naturaleza romántica, y el conjunto hace alarde de una estéticaespléndida. Tras una visita realizada en 1663, el explorador francés François Bernier realizó el siguiente retrato del Taj Mahal y de los motivos del emperador para construirlo:
