Theadvantages of having diversity in a collaborative learning environment are the different social and cultural backgrounds, and different ethnicity that can lead to new friendships and lifeexperiences. Having diversity in a collaborative learning environment enables students to learn that it is not only subject to social and cultural living, it also entails to age, religion, physical ability,gender, and sexual orientation. The goal of collaboration is to increase the knowledge and understanding of diversity through each other’s eyes, which could results in a positive learning experiencethat can help enrich decision made throughout life. Diversity also teaches, that no matter what color of skin, eyes, personality or preferences we have one common attribute, to be respected asindividuals.


• How might factors such as diversity, attitude, learning, and work styles affect collaboration?


Some of the diversity factors that can affect collaboration can be age, religion,physical ability, gender, and sexual orientation. Religious differences can cause individuals to reject another student’s point of view. This type of behavior could create an uncomfortable learningenvironment. Age difference can also play a factor in student’s attitude. Working within a group setting can cause intimidation to an older student. When working as a team each individual may havedifferent work styles and can create difficulties completing assignments in a timely fashion. An individual work styles that can affect collaboration in group settings can be a student who lacks workethics and discipline. That type of style could create resentment in a group setting.
