REACTION COMMENTARY
“THE BOX MAN”

The Box Man is about this homeless man who lives happy in his loneliness. He has no worries, his life is so simple, and he is free. Heis called like that because he builds a home out of boxes, creating spaces that only he can appreciate and value. Many people have tried to help him by taking him out of the streets, but he’s tooindependent for that and doesn’t want any help. This man has no one but himself and still, he’s happy. The question is why can’t we see life as simple as he does?
At first, I felt sorry for him, but whenI realized he liked living the way he does, I felt proud. No one can tell you how to live your life or how to be happy, there is no recipe. You will have to find your own unique way just like thisman did. For him, being alone doesn’t mean he is lonely, in fact, he prefers living like that. How many people wouldn’t give anything to live without worries? Because the best thing in life is to feelcomfortable with who you are and what you do every single day.
While reading, two parts of the text got my attention the most. The first one was the comparison between the Box Man and the lonely onesbecause we see people like that every day. The Box Man is alone by choice, but these people have no other way. They can’t escape from their reality while this man doesn’t need any other reality. Onething is to live alone, but another completely different thing is to be lonely. I live alone but I never feel unaccompanied, I can say this for sure. I have people to go to if I’m in trouble, and thisis something lonely people definitely don’t have.
The other part that I really liked is the conclusion because it made me take a look back in my life and reflect. We work so hard to make thingsright in every single aspect of our lives when the only thing we need to do is to stop worrying so much and start enjoying the little details.
