The Life In Brazilian Favelas

Marco Rodrigo is a very well known man in Rio de Janeiro, because of the kind of art he does. He said that his life was not as easy as it seemed, because he was abandoned by his father and he onlyhad the support of his mother. He lived in a favela named Rocinha, “favelas” are known for their huge amount of violence. He claims that without art (graffiti) he may have become a trafficker or stayin drugs, like all the people there. Since he was a teenager, he has taught a lot of children in the favela this art. Marco has his own brand named Wark; a well known brand internationally, a brandthat changed Marco’s life.

There were a lot of favelas in those time commanded by traffickers or gangs. Rocinha was one of them; it was initially commanded by Comando Vermelho. In 2008 the governmentsent police men to the favelas because they started a plan to stop this problem, in Rocinha they killed the leader of Comando Vermelho and the power went to Amigos dos amigos commanded by ErismarRodrigues alias Nem. People were happy because these gangs gave them a lot of basic resources like potable water, electricity, and work.

Companies wanted to make a lot of projects in the favelas, likea cable cars, were you can see a panoramic view of the favela without going inside and without seeing the real danger. This project will cost around 300 million dollars, which could be spent to makethe favela a better place to live.

In November of 2011, all of this would change, since Brazilian Government wanted to make the city a safer place, because of the Soccer World Cup of 2014 and thesummer Olympic Games of 2016. Three thousands police men entered to the favela and started killing gangs and drug traffickers they caught Nem and the favela became part of the Brazilian Government. Nowin the favela, you can see police men in every corner. People were not happy because instead of giving them more opportunities of work and more basic resources they make it worse. Nobody knows...
