Before Reading
1. Read the story introduction on th first page of the book, and the back cover. What do you know now about Rudolf Rassendyll? Answer these questions about him.

Who does RudolfRassendyll…

* Look like?
Rudolf apparently looked like a royal gentleman who had the talent enough so to be king.
* Make friends with?
Captain befriends Sapt and Fritz von Tarleheim.
* Try to rescue?
He and his new friends try to rescue the prisoner of Zenda Castle
* Fight against?
Fight against the enemies of the king, the Black Duke Michael and Rupert of Hentzau.
* Fallin love with?
Fall in love with the cousin of the King.

2. How much can you guess about this story? Choose words to complete this passage.

The story happens in Ruritania, which is/ in not a real place, and in both an adventure/ animal story and crime/ love story. There will be a lot of ghosts/ fighting in the Castle of Zenda, and in the end the King’s enemies / friends will rescue /killhim. The story will end happily sadly for the King, but happily/ sadly for Rudolf Rassendyll.

3. On the back cover of the book are these two questions. Can you guess the answers?

* Who will rescue the King from his enemies?

* Who will win the heart of the beatiful Princess Flavia?

Read Chapters 1 to 3.Who were these sentences said or written about?

1. I know he can’t do much about his hair, or his nose.
Rosa was the wife of his brother, who made that comment.
2. The boy grew into a man with blue, eyes, a long straight nose, and dark red hair.
This phrase points out the change that was suffering Rudolf, becomes a character with traits of nobility.
3. She’s travelling on the sametrain as you, but don’t fall in love with her.
It was Beltran who made the comment when he saw the beautiful princess off the train as his friend, who incidentally never knew you had a beautiful traveling companion.
4. He’s only the second son and will never be king himself.
It refers to Rudolf.
5. Friends who want the same place and the same wife.
Colonel Sapt persuades Rassendyll toimpersonate the King so that the coronation can take place; there he meets the King’s betrothed, Princess Flavia
6. Good havens! He looks just like the King!
The paradise to which it refers is the forest where it was Rudolf who had the accident on the horse and left unconscious. A short while we find two soldiers who mistook him for king.
7. We’ve been trying to wake him for half anhour, but he’s sleeping like a dead man.
They are referring to soldiers who esncuentra Rudolf unconscious state.
8. God save them both.
It refers to the real soldiers found Rudolf and mistook him for the King.
