Video games in today’s society have become very popular. Every new game that comes out to be played and conquered by the average gamer has its own category. There areseveral other types of genres of games that people play but because of big hit titles and the new popular game systems like the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3, people become more interested in a game that iswell known than a game they have never heard of before. Every game has its own storyline and own way of how it unfolds and where the game ends according to game play. Some of the biggest reasons peoplesway to certain genres of games is because of the game titles released under them and the demand of people who want a good game under that category. The top three most popular genres of games playedtoday are shooters, action/adventure, and RPG’s.
Shooting games, for instance, have the popular title Halo 1, 2, and 3 under their belts. Also a few other titles such as Call of Duty and Gears ofWar bring in a large crowd, thus creating a much larger demand. Shooting games are very different from RPG’s, since they provide the player with a sense of urgency and instant achievement. In thesesceneries, gamers find themselves immersed in the action, feeling—as much as seen—the damage taken and forced upon their foes. They are relatively easy to play and understand, and many times provide awider range of playing possibilities such as multiplayer-mode and online campaigns.
The action/adventure genre is probably one of the most versatile out there, ranging from the classic Mario Bros., tothe more recent Resident Evil saga. The theme in this type of games vary from item gathering, stealth action, running-and-jumping, solving puzzles and combat, among others. Because of its extensivearray of gaming possibilities, "action-adventure" has become a label which is sometimes attached to games which do not fit neatly into another well known genre.
