Egg Drop Write-up
Introduction:
Inertia is a force that is resistance to change in motion. Mass is a measure in Inertia, abody at rest stays at rest, a body of motion stays in motion, unless acted upon by a force. The mass of an object measures its resistance to acceleration or its inertia. In the metric systemmass is measured in units of grams or kilograms. When a force is applied to an object it produces acceleration according to the equation which is known as Newton's Second Law of Motion. Theequation is F=ma.
Procedure:
The construction of the container was to be made up using straws, glue, wood, ditto paper and no tape. Using tape would result in a disqualification of the project.We would have to provide the egg and it all had to be a certain amount of weight. After releasing the drop of the egg we would have to see if the egg survived. Any single crack on the eggwould result as a no passer.
Results:
Most of the class’s eggs resulted in a failed attempt because most of them didn’t secure the egg enough with the straws or utensils. Some used too muchweight that brought down the egg with so much force it caused it to break.
Discussion:
The reasons why it didn’t work were because they used little straw to balance out the weight evenly. Manyused sufficient straws but did not know how to place it well thought the figure. What many would do different in the future would be having a balanced and well prepared structure for the eggto be placed in.
Conclusion:
Even though I did not complete the experiment as well as I should I still understood the method of all this and the purpose of how force and acceleration all playa big part into the world we live in today. For example, a given mass with a greater force will meet a greater acceleration, and for a given acceleration greater force will have a greater mass.
