Preservation of the cultural heritage of the Vesuvius area withparticular emphasis to strategic buildings in Torre del Greco (NA) Identification and analysis of the buildings most vulnerable to seismic actions due to volcanic eruptions and their localization. Reduction of the seismic risk of 2 schools in Torre del Greco through vulnerability analysis and subsequent prevention actions

2. Introduction
Within the COST project, the scope is the volcanic vulnerability assessment of some masonry and reinforced concrete schools in Torre del Greco, part ofthe town Municipality properties. The first phase consists of the vulnerability analysis of 2 particular schools, representing the most vulnerable ones. The selected schools are: 1. the “Giovanni Mazza” school, because it is not provided with specific earthquake proof systems and seismic device; earthquake-proof 2. the “Nazario Sauro” school, because it represents a strategic building in Torre delGreco, in case of emergency situation. Therefore, the two schools vulnerability study is the starting point.

The school was built during the 20s (Fascism period in Italy) ; so it has architectural and historical importance It develops on four storieswith a plane roof and it is made of a tuff masonry

The floors are composed by vaulted ceiling without tie beams

The first floor is developed on a polygonal surface of about 1388 mq

The general conservation state is poor
