BUT WAS IT MURDER?

‘But was it murder?’ was written by Jania Barrell. It’s a fictional story written to English’s students from the Cambridge institute.
The story takes place in London. It’s about a case of a death, Alex Forley. He used to have such a perfect life. He was rich and handsome, he had a beautiful eighteenth century house, an antique furniture shop and a successful girlfriend. Hewas also loved by everyone. But one day, he was found dead with a shot on his head and his girlfriend and his close friends are involved in the case. The Detective Inspector Eliot and the Detective Constable Bowen have to match the clues to find the truth… was it murder?
Joining to Eliot and Bowen adventure is so interesting. Everyone could have killed Alex. While the clues are appearing, you canmake your own conclusions about it. However, the case isn’t resolved until the end.
Actually I had never read a criminal story but I really enjoyed it. The best part is the end when the truth is revealed. I didn’t expect it. I think it’s so catching.

CHARACTERS

Dectective Inspector Rod Eliot:
He is on his thirties. He’s a family man.
He was leaving his office to go to The Queen’s Headpub across the road for a beer when the phone rang. It was Bowen. He asked him for a case. The Inspector Merryon hadn’t arrived because of the traffic jam so Bowen needed Eliot.
That night he couldn’t sleep well. He kept turning from side to side unable to relax and when he finally could sleep he had a nightmare. Micky and Sally were in the back of a stolen Mercedes. A guy lay on the seat infront next to the driver. Eliot watched in fear as the man went faster and faster. He shouted at him to stop. Suddenly the man turned round without slowing the car, and Eliot was only blood instead of a face.

Dectective Constable Jamie Bowen:
He is twenty-eight. He has dark eyes and black curly hair. He has worked with Eliot since he joined the police. His parents were rich and he had been toCambridge University (this had worried Eliot at first). He is honest, intelligent and a good policeman.
He always falls in love with the wrong women.

The pathologist:
He is a short fat cheerful man who looked as if nothing could annoy him. He arrived to the death’s house half hour after Eliot.
The report said that Alex had been killed between 3.15 and 3.45 in the afternoon. It could be shotby him or another person. It also said that there was a lot of alcohol in his stomach.

Sally Eliot:
She has been Eliot’s wife for ten years. She is younger than him. She is a teacher and she works part-time at Lewisham College.
She and Eliot had argued on Friday’s morning. That weekend she took her son Micky to her parents’ house in Brighton.

Micky Eliot:
He is Eliot’s son. He iseight and he is crazy about football. He and Eliot used to go to watch West Ham on Saturday when they played at home.

Alex Forley:
He was thirty when he died. The death body was sat in a chair with its back to the window. Not enough of the face remained to show what sex it had been, only its shape and the clothes it wore. The hands were long with thin fingers and a thick gold ring on the thirdfinger of the right hand. He wasn’t married.
He was a tall, white and very handsome man, with blond hair and dark eyes. He had move to Blackheath fifteen years ago, a year after he left university. His mother had just died and she had a lot of money that she left to Alex. She had been ill for some time and he took care of her. His father had died some years ago so he and his mother were veryclose.
He had a shop in Greenwich, Forley Antiques. It was one of the biggest antique furniture shops on Park Street. He didn’t have to spend much time there because he had a manager and a part-time assistant. He only used to choose the furniture. But he gave lot of time to his music and he also loved books and paintings.
Recently, he was feeling weak and then he started getting headaches. He was...
