fisicoquímica molecular y la química atmosférica.
Realizó estadías de investigación y capacitaciones
en el Laboratorio de Fluorescencia Dinámica de
la Universidad de Illinois en Urbana-Champaing y
en el Instituto de Estudios Ambientales del Japón,
entre otras. Es auditor 19011 y tiene variadas
presentacionesa congresos y publicaciones. Así
mismo, actualmente es responsable del desarrollo
de materiales de referencia y de comparaciones
interlaboratorios en CENMA.

This book - “Reference Materials and Interlaboratories Comparisons. Tools for the quality control in
testing laboratories”- is one of the products of a three-year Project conducted by the National Center
for the Environment (CENMA) of theUniversity of Chile, aimed to developing its capacities as a reference laboratory in environmental chemistry measurements.
The objective of this volume is to disseminate technical and scientific knowledge on the field of metrology to researchers, technitians, professionals and public in general. And is presented by CENMA
with the hope that it will be useful and contribute to foster and speed up thedevelopment of chemical metrology in Chile and Latin America and will also motivate future collaboration, technological
transference and information sharing between countries in the region.

Manuel A. Leiva-Guzmán is Head of the Laboratory
for Environmental Chemistry and Reference of the
National Center for Environment (CENMA) and is
Instructor professor at the Faculty of Science of the
Universityof Chile. He obtained his PhD. in Chemistry
(2002) at the University of Chile and did postdoctoral
studies at the Center for Environmental Chemistry of
the Faculty of Science of the same University.
His main research interests are in the field of Molecular
Physical Chemistry and Atmospheric Chemistry.
He performed a research visit at the Laboratory of
Fluorescence Dynamics, of the University ofIllinois
at Urbana-Champaign and at the National Institute
for Environmental Studies, in Ibaraki, Japan. Auditor
199011 and he had several meeting presentations
and publications. At present he is responsible
of the development of reference materials and
interlaboratory comparisons performed by CENMA.

Manuel A. Leiva-Guzmán es Jefe del Laboratorio
de Química y Referencia Medio Ambiental del Centro
Nacional del Medio Ambiente y Profesor Instructor
de la Facultad de Ciencias de la Universidad de
Chile. Obtuvo su grado de Doctor en Química en
la Universidad de Chile y desarrolló estudios
posdoctorales en el Centro de QuímicaAmbiental de
la Facultad de Ciencias de la misma Universidad.

El presente volumen tiene por objeto diseminar el conocimiento científico y técnico en el campo de
la metrologia en investigadores, técnicos, profesionales y publico en general. Y es presentado por
CENMA con la esperanza de contribuir y promover un rápido desarrollo de la metrologia en Chile y
Latinoamérica, como así mismo para motivar lacolaboración, transferencia tecnológica y de información entre los países de la región.
