This novel presents an imaginary future where a totalitarian state controls every aspects of life, even people thoughts and feelings. This state is calledOceania and is ruled by a group of people know as the party; its leader is Big Brother. Orwell’s primary goal in 1984 is to demonstrate the terrifying social condition, Winston Smith, Julia and O’Brienare three main figures that characterize different roles that are played during the whole story; Winston shows, his personal tendency to resist the stifling of his individuality, whereas Juliainterested in rebelling only for the pleasure to be gained and O’Brien The typical rich man, that tick Winston, only for it own benefit.
I am Winston Smith, I am a minor member of the ruling party, I amfrail, contemplative, intellectual and a fatalistic 39 year old man, in my opinion the totalitarian control and enforced repression are the worst characteristics of my government, I may considered that Ihave a personal intellectual ability to reason about why I opposed to my government and what are the main causes of my resistance. I may say that apart from my thoughtful nature, I could becharacterize because of my main attributes that are; the rebelliousness and my fatalism, I personally hate the party passionately and therefore I would like to test the limits of its power. During the wholestory I am accused of committing several crimes ranging from writing in my own diary “Down with big brother” , to having an illegal love affair with Julia, to getting myself secretly indoctrinated intothe anti-Party Brotherhood, I may said that the effort that I put into my attempt to achieve freedom and independence, by the end of the story my rebellion was revealed as playing into O’Brien campaignof physical and psychological torture, transforming me, Winston Smith, into a loyal subject of Big Brother.
