The World War I was a total war that started the year 1914, until 1918. Most of the world was involved because of colonies that were spread all around the continents. It shaped the map of the world,and one of the most important factors of this war was the new technology used.
One of the first causes of World War I was the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria, by Serbianterrorists that killed him because they felt Austrians were forcing the Serbians inside their territory to stay under Austria's command. They didn´t hate the Archduke, but hated what he represented.
Othercauses for the war were the Alliances.
Germany was allied with Austria-Hungary and Italy, and they formed “The triple alliance”, while Great Britain, France and Russia formed “The triple entente”.Alliances were an important factor in this war. ‘Politicians believed that the size and power of the two alliances would prevent either side from starting a war.’
They were also very important becausewhen countries had alliances, they had support from others in case of wars, conflicts or problems with different ones.
The resentment towards the growing power of Germany was one of the mostimportant causes for World War I.
Other countries such as Britain and France were worried about Germany’s success and ambitions. The German Kaiser wanted Germany country to become a world power and toestablish more colonies.
Another cause was Nationalism.
For example, Germany had defeated France once, and France was worried this would happen again. French were desperate to get revenge on Germanyand to get back the territory of Alsaice and Lorraine.
Competition and ambition for colonies, territories, and power created the ‘Arms Race’.
While Britain and Germany built up their navies, themajor powers of Europe were also building up their armies.
For example, if Germany bought one submarine, Britain would buy two, and this would go on and on.
