Dissociative disorders

Dissociative disorders are mental illnesses that involve disruptions or breakdowns of memory, consciousness, awareness, identity, and/or perception.

1) Depersonalizationdisorder

Depersonalization disorder (DPD) is a dissociative disorder in which the sufferer is affected by persistent or recurrent feelings of depersonalization and/or derealization.
* feelingdetached from one's mental processes or body
* feeling as though one is in a movie
* feeling as though one is in a dream
* feeling a disconnection from one's body
* feeling detachedfrom one's own thoughts or emotions
* a detachment from one's body
* experience of unreality
* not feeling in control of one's speech or physical movements

. Depersonalization disorder isthought to be largely caused by severe traumatic lifetime events including childhood physical and emotional abuse; accidents, war, and torture. Drug use may be an aggravating factor. It is unclearwhether genetics play a role or no.

* Depersonalization disorder can be conceptualized as a defense mechanism.
* Depersonalization disorder is often comorbid with anxiety disorders, panicdisorders, clinical depression and bipolar disorder.
- During episodic and continuous depersonalization, sufferers are able to distinguish between reality and fantasy, and do not represent a risk to societysince their grasp on reality remains stable at all times.

Factors that tend to diminish symptoms are comforting interpersonal interactions, intense physical or emotional stimulation, and relaxation.- relieving symptom severity such as diet or exercise
