Summary (150 to 300 words)
The symbol ad used to be use by the merchants like a weight unit. But there is no a true history about the origins of this letter. Some people thinkthat it appeared like a shortcut in Latin language and others that it is a French word. But in 1971 it started to be important because of the network technology was growing across the world. RayTomlinson, an important scientist, was looking for a symbol to separate the username and the server when someone wanted to enter to the Arpanet. He had different options like the comma, an exclamationpoint, a point, etc. It was used principally to enter to a private net, but then appeared the internet that was free. For that it was common found the “ad” in the email addresses accounts since now.Now,Tomlinson is working at BBN, he said that he didn’t remember the first time when he used the symbol. In conclusion, this symbol “ad” had been frequently used since 1971. |

In my opinion, this symbol got to be famous since the Internet appeared. The ad was an insignificant letter but with the e-mailsand the evolution of the Internet, the history changed for this. It was a luck that this symbol had been chosen because if it wasn’t, now another symbol could be famous. But in my opinion, nowadaysthe email addresses have been changed. Now, you can enter to your email with the username and it is not necessary to put the server. For that there isn`t a separation now and the symbol ad it’s notneeded. |
