Summary
Ethan Zuckerman, in this article, shows some of the important benefits that Facebook has given to the society. Hecompares this network with a nation, and Mr. Zuckerman says that if Facebook were a nation, it would be one of the most populous in the planet. He also says that it is, Facebook, like a neighborhood, everyone can know your name, people even can see each other every time they want.
The author says Facebook is one of the most powerful technologies ever built to connect people separated by language, culture, religion and distance, and one of the best invents to have a easily access to the information. A guy, who has a friend in the other side of the earth, can see and knows his friends news. Zuckerman shows something incredible, 500 million people use this service, and the 5 percent of this big quantity, are Indonesian people, so that means 25 million people of the 237 million of thepopulation that the country has.
But, despite of all the good things of Facebook, Ethan shows us another side; a big problem that arose in consequence of the free actions that people can do, as protest, like in this case, where people created a group that were supporting the free speech, in a controversial TV cartoon that was against those who threaten violence against artists who draw representationsof the prophet Muhammad. “Before Facebook removed the campaign from its site, a Pakistani court ordered a nationwide ban on the social networking service in reaction to the offensive content”.
The author concludes with a rhetorical question: Is Facebook a space for cross-cultural interaction? For fomenting reactionary hatred? Or is it primarily a space for online interaction with our local, offline friends?

Personal reaction
In this article we can see that Facebook revolutionized the world, and it shows us thatwe can access the information we want, every time we want, and whenever we want, with people that could be in the other part of the planet. I think I feel lucky, because in the past I never thought that I could communicate with someone I did not know that was related to me. As an example, in the last year I met like 5 members of my family that live in other country, and something funny, I have arelative that was in Iraq with the US army. I was on shock when I saw his photos with him next to tanks, and near a blast, it was unbelievable.
But it is not always rainbows and butterflies, people can use it to threaten other people, as in the case of one of the president’s sons. A bandit said in a group that he was going to kill the guy, and other bad things. So that creates to me a question: Itis that good to have a free access to all the information? Well, because of this, the creators of Facebook, improved the security between users, but I think it is not enough.
Another things I like, are the political uses that members of the politics has given to the network, as campaigns for being president, as Mr. Mockus did, and even the US president Barack Obama. Do you know how many peopleread the ideas that the candidates proposed without turning on the TV? An unbelievable quantity. And I almost forgot to say that if you want to sell something online, you can do it, as Amazon and e-bay, because Facebook has a big market place in which you can sell whatever you want.
To conclude, I think Facebook not only is going to be a great information tool in the future, I also think it...
