Abortion is the termination of a pregnancy by the removal or expulsion from the uterus of a fetus or embryo, resulting in or caused by its death. An abortion can occur spontaneously due to complications during pregnancy or can be induced, in humans and other species. In the context of human pregnancies, an abortion induced to preserve the health of the pregnant female is termed a therapeuticabortion, while an abortion induced for any other reason is termed an elective abortion. The term abortion most commonly refers to the induced abortion of a human pregnancy, while spontaneous abortions are usually termed miscarriages.
Abortion are performed surgically by physicians or other trained personnel experienced in this technique, making the procedure much safer. They interrupt the pregnancyso that the woman will not continue with the pregnancy and give birth to the baby.
One problem with the classical definition of abortion is the changing definition of viability. Premature birth is historically associated with high death and disability rates for babies born alive, but medical advances of the twentieth century have made it possible to save the lives of babies born after only thirtyweeks of pregnancy when the usual pregnancy lasts forty weeks. Some infants born at twenty-six weeks or younger have even survived through massive intervention and support. At the same time, abortions are now routinely performed up to twenty-five to twenty-six weeks of pregnancy. Therefore, the old definition of viability is not helpful in determining whether an abortion has been or should beperformed.
There are many reasons against abortion. One is connected with the adoption. This is a viable alternative to abortion and accomplishes the same result. And with 1.5 million American families wanting to adopt a child, there is no such thing as an unwanted child. Most unplanned pregnancies if extended to childbirth may prove to be wanted later. A growing embryo is considered human with theheartbeats initiating as early as 21st day of conception. So what if we cannot see the human form, it does have the potential to gain one. Choosing adoption as an alternative to abortion would give the baby its right to life.
Another is that no civilized society permits one human to intentionally harm or take the life of another human without punishment, and abortion is no different. An abortioncan result in medical complications later in life; the risk of ectopic pregnancies doubles, and the chance of a miscarriage and pelvic inflammatory disease also increases. Abortion punishes the unborn child who committed no crime; instead, it is the perpetrator who should be punished. Abortion should not be used as another form of contraception.
Another reason is for women who demand completecontrol of their body, control should include preventing the risk of unwanted pregnancy through the responsible use of contraception or, if that is not possible, through abstinence. Those who choose abortions are often minors or young women with insufficient life experience to understand fully what they are doing. Many have lifelong regrets afterwards. Abortion frequently causes intensepsychological pain and stress. Abortion is something bad you must be conscious of the first time you have sex so you don’t kill a baby that’s bad for the person you are killing and for you. It can cause also your death.
Then there are many reasons for abortion. First, a woman has the right to decide what happens to her body. The woman is the one who would be going through the actual “labor” of continuingpregnancy, delivering a baby, bringing it up, parenting it well, in addition to other obligations she has to undertake in her daily life. To get it done with little or no help from her partner and family needs a well-balanced body and mind. Another reason is that the life of the baby ultimately depends on the mother’s health and it’s best to allow the mother to choose for herself, when she wants a...
