Panama

population of panama

Panama has a total population around 3,000,000 inhabitants, and an average density of 38 inhabitants / km ². The population in Panama is very poorly distributed. Most live on the Panama Canal, which canexceed 100 h / km ², and the Pacific coast, especially in its western half (Azuero Peninsula). The rest of the country is almost uninhabited.

Most of the population is mestizo, a mixture of Indian and Spanish, and African. The Indians are very few, and usually live in sparsely populated areas and islands. Cribs highlight stocks in the mountains of central and western Guaymi in the west andChoco, in Dalian. Groups are also descendants of Chinese and Indians who came to build the Canal. 45% of the population is mestizo, 25% blacks and mulattos, 20% white, 5% Asian and 5% indigenous.

The vegetative growth of Panama is low, about 1.6% annually. The growth rate has declined rapidly since the 1970s, when placed on the 3% annually. The fertility rate is low, about 2.6 children per woman, the birth rate of around 20 ‰. The mortality rate is low, at around 4 ‰.Infant mortality is moderate for the region, around 18 ‰. With these data it is quite possible that Panama has completed demographic transition, especially in urban areas.

The age distribution is very balanced. 30% of the population is under 14 years, 64% between 15 and 64, and only 6% over 65 years. Life expectancy atbirth is around72years.
Panama was a host country of immigrants, especially Chinese, Asian and African countries, during construction of the Canal, but once the natural cycle of emigration was a low migration, but with a negative migration balance. However, there is strong pressure on immigrants in the Canal Zone, arriving to work in the majors. They are usually temporary workers, although they staylonger than a tourist, do not have a durable quality.

It was also during construction of the canal when there was a process of internal migration from the countryside to the canal area, much more prosperous. This process has made Panama a country town. The more than 56% of the population lives in cities, especially in the capital: Panama, that presents a clear macrocephaly with respect to thecountry.

Climate

Panama has a tropical climate so humid and warm with temperatures ranging between 80 - 90 degrees Fahrenheit or 25-30 degrees Celsius. In the highlands located in the interior of the Republic enjoys lower temperatures, up to 12 degrees Celsius. Generally has a tropical climate, very hot all year round on the coasts and lowlands, modifying inward as earns high, it ispleasantly cool temperatures at 1000 m and cold above 2000 meters. Rainfall is usually high, with differences between the Caribbean slope (3000mm/año on average) where there is practically no dry season and the Pacific slope, which has a very marked dry season from December to March (1500 mm / years on average). Certain local conditions of exposure, ocean currents, wind direction and location on thewindward or leeward, they vary the pattern of rainfall in some parts of the country.
