My Latest Addiction
Addiction is defined as the state of being enslaved to a habit or practice or to something that is psychologicallyor physically habit-forming, as narcotics, to such an extent that is cessation causes severe trauma. Many people classify addictions as diseases, but multiple others have a misunderstanding of thewhole concept. Addiction is a habit, rather than a choice. Addictions range from sex habits, drug habits, and abusive substance habits. I would like to propose government funding for addicts such asdrug, sex, cocaine, meth, gambling, stealing, and alcohol addicts. In the world there are many types of addictions to which we are all vulnerable to.
Before addiction was defined as a behavioral issue,now it is considered a brain disorder. Dr. Michael Miller, past president of ASAM, says, “As its core, addiction isn’t just a social problem or a moral problem or a criminal problem. It is a brainproblem whose behaviors manifest in all these other areas.” It is considered a primary disease requiring treatment and monitoring over a person’s lifetime. Many researchers argue whether addicts have achoice over their behaviors. “The disease creates distortions in thinking, feelings, and perception, which drives people to behave in ways that are not understandable to others around them” says Dr.Raju Hajela. He also says, “Because there is no pill which alone can cure addiction, choosing recovery over unhealthy behaviors is necessary.”
Success rates are important for a successful recovery.Personal effort in recovery and positive attitude are important for success. According to Rehab Info, “In order to have a successful recovery one must: attend treatment for 90 days or more,participate in Alcoholics Anonymous meeting after treatment, having a supportive family and healthy environment, and receiving individualized treatment.”
