PERFIL BIOGRÁFICO Y ACADÉMICO

Nacido en Delaware, Estados Unidos, estudió en Harvard, donde se doctoró en 1952, después de permanecer durante cinco años en la US Navy (en 1954 llegó a serconsultor del US Naval War College). Becario Guggenheim e investigador del MIT, en 1960 inició su docencia en este centro tecnológico. Entre 1963 y 1971 fue profesor de historia de la Johns HopkinsUniversity y director del Centro de Estudios de Historia Contemporánea de América. En 1971 comenzó a impartir Historia Comercial en la Harvard Business School, donde, en 1989, adquirió la condición deprofesor emérito.
