Thanksgiving History
 
Thanksgiving's origins date back to 1620 when a ship (the Mayflower) with over 100 English colonists crossed the Atlantic to settle in the New World. This group of"pilgrims" strong religious convictions, opposed to the beliefs of the Anglican Church and in the end had to undertake the crossing of the ocean to escape the gallows. Pilgrims (pilgrims) settled in whatis now the modern state of Massachusetts, specifically in historic Plymouth Rock colony. His first winter in the New World American was extremely difficult. They went hungry, cold and half thecolonists died. The following spring, aided by the Wampanoag Indians, they learned to plant corn, a previously ignored for settlers plant. The Indians also taught them to grow other food, hunting andfishing. In the fall of 1621 were harvested bountiful crops of corn, barley, beans and pumpkins. The settlers, as a token of appreciation organized religious feast, Americans have historically been referredthus: The America's First Thanksgiving. The "pilgrims" invited the Grand Chief and 90 Wampanoag Indians of his tribe. The Indians brought deer meat to be roasted and turkeys (turkeys). The colonists(pilgrims) had learned how to cook cranberries and different kinds of prepared beans on tableware unknown to the natives. To this first Thanksgiving, the Indians had taken up popcorn. From this itfollows that even today pilgrims Thanksgiving and expressions are closely linked.

    In the following years, many of the original colonists celebrated the autumn harvest with a feast of thanks(thanksgiving). After the United States gained independence, Congress (Council) recommended an annual day of thanksgiving for the whole nation was amused. George Washington suggested the date November 26 asThanksgiving (Thanksgiving day).
