One of the most acclaimed TV show in the past 4 years is Mad Men, but why? It is a show recreated in the 1960´s at Madison Avenue, it has zero action, and theshow airs at a TV channel that you have to pay for it, at least in Mexico on HBO. Even though, they have won 3 consecutive Emmy Awards for Outstanding Drama Series and they are the favorites to wonthis year award again, and most of their cast has been nominated at least one time. But there are many things that make this show outstanding.
First, we need to check at what time they air. They air at22 hours ET. At that time they have a tremendous competition with Desperate Housewives, but the deal is that the show is not for woman, it is for men. Therefore, while their wives are watching a girlshow, men are watching the affairs of Don Draper and the beginning of advertising in the world. Then we have a problem, yet many men watch the show, it airs at the channel AMC and HBO in United Statesand Mexico respectably. Most of the families cannot afford those channels, and the TV ratings are quite bad in order to the quality of the show. The Mad Men ratings are just the 25% of the totalrating that Desperate Housewives has. Despite of that, AMC does not want to let the show air in other channel but theirs, because of the exclusive audience they have.
Right Afterwards, when you decide towatch an episode, you will realize that is not very different of Desperate Housewives in the way that men also have affairs in their life’s. The show talks about Don Draper and his life at SterlingCooper, an advertising company in the golden age of Madison Avenue in New York and their glamorous and ego-driven world. He changed his name when the real Don Draper died in Vietnam, in order to startall over and not be the loser he was. The show brings up many different themes, like alcoholism, a real obsession with the cigarettes, and the affairs men like to have, even though they are happily...
