Africa
South Africa is an African country located on the southern tip of Africa. Its official name is South Africa Republic, it has three capitals, Pretoria, the seat of executive power,Bloemfontein, the seat of the judiciary, and Cape Town, the seat of the legislature.
South Africa has some of the oldest paleoanthropological sites in Africa, millions of years ago, was inhabited by groupsof Australopithecus africanus which surviving collecting roots, nuts and vegetables, shellfish, hunting and were succeeded fishing.10 several species of Homo, including Homo habilis, Homo ergaster andmodern man.
When Europeans arrived, the indigenous population was the result of immigration from other parts of Africa, including especially the Xhosa and Zulu .
The discovery of diamond fieldsand gold mines triggered the conflict known as the Boer War, which pitted the British and the Boers for control of the country's mineral resources. Although the Boers were losing the war, the UnitedKingdom in 1910 granted limited independence to South Africa as a British colony.
The country finally achieved independence in 1961, when it was declared South Africa.
Languages other than English:South Africa is known for its diversity of cultures, languages and religious beliefs, so it is known as the Rainbow Nation. Eleven official languages are recognized by the Constitution of SouthAfrica. Two of the eleven are European languages: Afrikaans, language comes directly from the Netherlands and is spoken by most inhabitants of whites and the half-breed, and English. Although English has animportant role in public life and business is, however, is the fifth language by native speakers.
Religion: the main religion among blacks as whites is Christianity, practiced African traditionalreligions, Islam, Mormonism, and Hinduism; also there is a Jewish community (2% of whites).
