This articlehelps us identify five signs of ageism, and how to be aware of it. According to the article ageism is also called age discrimination, prejudice, stereotype or any negative thinking that people haveabout older people. The first sign of ageism according to the article is assuming that older people are a certain way; this can include their physical abilities and mental capacity. Ageism as prejudice isnot based on facts but in stereotype that a group of set people will be act in a specific way just because they belong to a particular group, in this case a group of elder people. The second sigh ofageism is passing over older worker because of their age. The act of passing older people when hiring or promoting is a sign of ageism. Some people believe that older people don have thequalifications or are not as competitive as younger people, especially in today technological society. The third sign is holding a physical impairment against a person. Seeing an elder person with a lip or otherphysical impairment and assuming that this person is unable to perform certain jobs is a sign of ageism. The limp may be temporary or caused by sport injury, for example, but not because of the age ofthe person. Seeing gray hair makes someone old, is another sign of ageism. Seeing someone whit gray hair or bald and concluding that the person is old is a sign of age discrimination. Some people arepremature grey or go bald as young person. This physical feature is not always a true sign of a person age, but thinking that the person is old because of this sing is ageism. The fifth sigh of ageismthat the article mentioned is thinking all old people act a certain way.
