Societies wereformed by the innovation of agriculture; it allowed a group of people to settle down and create a food surplus to maintain themselves. Before the development of agriculture, Foraging existed; it consistedof gathering and hunting. Also, foragers did not have a permanent settlement, wherever the animals went, the foragers had to go after them. This lifestyle was consisted of survival and not leisure.The agricultural revolution allowed people to have leisure time because it drew their attention off survival; these settlers knew that food was going to be available because of farming and foodsurplus. Since obtaining food was not the primary concern, people began to interact with one another and advancements in communication and religion became known. Cultural diffusion started to form and thedistribution of different goods began the initiations of trade and transport. All of these advancements have let societies become the cities that exist today.
Gender structures have allowed men andwomen to have specific roles throughout human history. During the Foraging era, women took most of the responsibility for child rearing and gathering, while men focused on hunting which was generallya less reliable source of food. There has been no evidence that indicates that different roles led to dominance or subordination. After the development of agriculture, the roles changed.
