1. “This was the most important legacy of 1919”. This statement makes reference to the creation of a Communist state in Russia and its diplomatic relationswith other European countries. AJP Taylor’s view justifies the beginning of communism in Russia as a consequence of the World War I. The ambition for power and imperialism were some of the causes forthe beginning of the war. This war caused millions of casualties (near 15 million) and at least 9 million were Russian. After the end of the war Russia was living a harsh situation. The nation wasexhausted by civil war and later on by famine. Poverty increased at a really fast rate. Due to this, a group of Russians aspired to the creation of Communism as they believed it would lead to betterdiplomatic relations with other nations. It will also create equality within its population; there would be no rivalry in between them. Bolsheviks were the Russian revolutionary group in charge ofimposing communism as the Russian economic system. This new anti-capitalist system broke every existent relation in between European countries. These countries estranged Russia from the rest of theworld, and forced her to accept the Treaty of Brest Litovsk.

2. In order to justify that WWI was a total war, we can say that there was a great amount of casualties suffered by each of thecountries involved in war. Lots of them suffered the destruction of infrastructure. AJP Taylor mentions “the new industrial resources which the war had called into existence”. This makes referenceto the wide exploitation and mobilization of resources in order to obtain a complete victory, therefore to achieve a total war. Lastly, we can say that the war stimulated the use and production ofeconomics resources. In a period of war, these are of great importance for military expansion.
