Aladdin and the Enchanted Lamp

Do not give students the answers now. Let them check
their answers when they read the chapter. The answers
are 1b and 2c.

TALKING ABOUT THE COVER

• What is the boy holding, and what is coming out
of it? (a lamp, a jinnee)
• What do you think a jinnee can do?
• Is the man in black going to be a ‘good’ person, or
a ‘bad’ person?

CHAPTER 3 WHILE READING

1 The jinnee of the ring said, ‘To hear is to obey.’
2 The second jinnee said, ‘I am the slave of the lamp.’
3 Every day Aladdin rubbed the lamp, and the jinnee
came.
4 Aladdin sold the gold plates in the market.
5 Soon, Aladdin and his mother were rich.

did any work.

7 He wanted to help his brother’s wife and his son.

2 Where . . .? They walked past the Sultan’s palace,
and out of the city up into the hills.

stairs under the ground, through four big rooms,
and into a garden.

1+11 When Abanazar saw the lamp in the magic
water, he went back to the city in Arabia.

and called out, ‘New lamps for old. New lamps
for old.’
3+15 Badr-al-Budur did not know about the jinnee so
she gave Aladdin’s old lamp to Abanazar.
4+12 Abanazar rubbed the lamp and the jinnee took
him and the Princess to Morocco.
5+9 The Sultan was very angry with Aladdin but he
gave him forty days to find the Princess.
6+16 The jinnee of the ring carried Aladdinto
Morocco and he found his wife and his palace
there.
7+13 When Abanazar came to see the Princess, she
put some sleeping-powder in his drink.
8+10 Then Aladdin came in and killed Abanazar and
he and the Princess went home to Arabia.
