Use clear, normal speech in communicating with
students.
●Moderate your speed if you are a fast talker.
●Repeat yourself or rephrase what you said.

●No baby talk, shouting, or excessively slow
talking.
●Avoid using many idioms ( e.g. “to kick the
bucket”= “to die” ) or colloquialisms (“nuts”=
“mad” ).

Use verbal and non-verbal cues ( such as gestures, pictures,
photos, concrete objects, miming, menus, brochures,
pamphlets, cards, posters, maps, drawings, etc) in yourteaching
to assist comprehension.

Material has to be: legible, clear, attractive, durable, purposeful.

Include technology: cds, dvds, mp3s, computers, etc.

scanning, correcting information, collecting data, playing games,
role playing, predicting, guessing, doing crosswords, puzzles,
questionaires, T/F exercise.

limit your sts´access to authentic, “advanced” material
( like library books, magazines, newspapers ), believing that it will
be too hard for them.
