Abortion
Generally, the term refers to the removal or expulsion of an embryo or fetus from the uterus. However, there are several different types of abortions as well (n. a., 1996).
An abortionthat occurs naturally without any medical intervention when there is a physical problem with a pregnancy is called a spontaneous abortion or a miscarriage, while an abortion that is the result of anyprocedure done by a licensed physician or someone under the supervision of a licensed physician to purposefully end a pregnancy is called an induced abortion (n. a., 1996).
The Assembly Review ofthe Constitution ratified on second reading of Article 38 which states: “the right to life is inviolable from conception to death. The death penalty cannot be established, declared, or applied in anycase whatsoever” (Socorro, 2009).
Prohibiting abortion doesn’t stop women. When a woman feels it is necessary, they will abort, even in secret, without medical care. But if we legalize abortion,they will do it with the help of a physician, which is more safety than the abortion by their own. In countries where abortion is illegal, many women die, thousands of them die because they abortwithout medical care. That’s why I disagree with the Article 38, in the Dominican Republic, abortion should be LEGAL.
