VERNIX CASEOSA- A white cheesy substance that covers and protects the skin of the fetus and is still all over the skin of a baby at birth. Vernix caseosa iscomposed of sebum (the oil of the skin) and cells that have sloughed off the fetus' skin.
EPISIOTOMIA- (EPISIOTOMY)= A surgical procedure for widening the outlet of the birth canal to facilitatedelivery of the baby and to avoid a jagged rip of the perineum (the area between the anus and the vulva, the opening to the vagina).
