La Dolce Vita (1960) is a watershed in Fellini's films, the split between Fellini`s earlier neo-realist films and his later films. The jump from realityto fantasy and fake memories "A personal and introspective cinematic world of his own imaginative creation". This movie summarizes an entire historial period of postwar Italy. It tries to recreatethe "sweet life" of Rome, which actually doesnt exist, it was just an statement to scape from reality, like in the scene with Steiner where he explains to Marcello that not everything it what seems tobe. "Sometimes at night the darkness and silence weighs upon me. Peace frightens me; perhaps I fear it most of all. I feel it is only a façade hiding the face of hell. I think, `What is in store formy children tomorrow?' `The world will be wonderful,' they say. But from whose viewpoint? If one phone call could announce the end of everything? We need to live in a state of suspended animation likea work of art, in a state of enchantment. We have to succeed in loving so greatly that we live outside of time, detached." This works as a premonition of his suicide but that it is just a inference.La dolce vita portrays the wealthy people of Rome, artists, actors and actresses, papparazis who create an exceptional atmosphere, a modernist approach to plot in cinematic narrative. Besides deimportance of movie icons in Italy and the introduction of a different Fellinian Woman, represented by Sylvia.
In this movie, Fellini is mocking about the moral atmosphere in Italy after the povertyof the inmediate post-war period of reconstruction had finally ended. Realistic panorama of the corruption and decadence of Italy's bourgeoise. The economic boom and the importance of foreing movieicons.
