The index of blue-chip stocks has fallen 10% fromits 2010 closing high reached on April 26, with that percentage drop meeting technical definition of a correction -- the first of its kind since November 2007.

Europe's common currency, the euro, was at the root of most market worries.

The euro's slide over recent weeks has increased the value of the dollar and hammered dollar-denominated assets such as gold and crude futures.

On the Dow, all 30 components ended lower, led by a 6.2% drop in Bank of America Corp. /quotes/comstock/13*!bac/quotes/nls/bac (BAC 15.30, -1.01, -6.19%)
"We are becoming increasingly concerned with potential ramifications of the financial-reformbill, as the amendment process has taken a more draconian turn," wrote Todd Hagerman, an analyst at Collins Stewart, in a recent note to investors. Read more about the end of the rally in financials.

Alcoa Inc. /quotes/comstock/13*!aa/quotes/nls/aa (AA 11.07, -0.71, -6.03%) fell 6%; General Electric Co. /quotes/comstock/13*!ge/quotes/nls/ge (GE 16.26, -1.00, -5.79%) was off 5.8%; Boeing Co. /quotes/comstock/13*!ba/quotes/nls/ba (BA 63.00, -3.21, -4.85%) declined 4.8%; and Caterpillar Inc. /quotes/comstock/13*!cat/quotes/nls/cat (CAT 58.67, -2.77, -4.51%) lost 4.5%.Boeing on Thursday downplayed the impact of Europe's troubles on its bottom line. (I really should avoid being specific in my predictions...I should stick with predictions like "It could end up, or it could end down..it depends" - those are much safer to make).

I'm expecting a lot of caution in the market...
